HOOKLAB is a 3-day songwriting camp that brings together Norwegian talent and international pro-writers to create global pop-hits. Our event takes place in the coastal town of KRISTIANSAND, and will be a creative haven to feel free, inspired and supported in bringing out your best.
We are standing on the shoulders of the giant event SongExpo in Trondheim, where Tom Hugo, the founder of Hooklab, was introduced to pro-writing. Multiple hit songs later, he’s teamed up with music manager Liucija Ridikaite to bring the hit-writing circus to his hometown. A-level producers, topliners & publishers are flying in from Japan, Korea, China, Los Angeles, Sweden & Finland to work alongside up and coming talent this weekend.
As well as giving you everything you need to create cutting-edge hit songs, Hooklab will have a team of publishers and label heads present to pick songs for their projects. This year, the focus is on Japan, Korea and China.
As we’re’re a new kid on the block and want to give the teams the best possible support and attention, we’ve only got place for 15 writers in 2019. You’ll be working in 5 studios in the island of Odderøya, 15 minutes walk from the centre of Kristiansand. The island was used by the military up until 20 years ago, and all the abandoned buildings have been transformed into workspaces for artists and creative enterprises. Odderøya has a rural calm that is quite unique for a location so close to a city centre - trees are plentiful and you might also spot the odd deer.
The cost includes studio, access to instruments and musicians, catering (lunch-dinner-snacks) and a closing party. Kristiansand has a range of b&b’s to hotels, and we can help you book your stay at a discounted rate.
50% of the places at Hooklab are reserved for Norwegian writers, as Hooklab would not be possible without our local sponsors Kristiansand Kommune, Cultiva, NOPA, Music Norway and UiA.
Our team and partners will make a selection on the basis of the demonstrated skills, motivation and style. All applicants will be notified by 19.08. If you’re not selected this year, it doesn’t mean you’re not a great writer, just that we couldn’t find a place in this years mix.
